Rockwell RK5101K Oscillating Tool
The Rockwell RK5101K oscillating tool is a corded version with really nice power. I would put this model a step below Fein. The Rockwell RK5101K offers variable speed, plenty of accessories, and is known for its lack of “kickback”. It is light weight and I would definitely rate this one 4+ out of 5 stars. The only drawback to me is that it is corded. Otherwise this is contractor grade and any DIY’er would love to have this oscillating tool for use around the house.
Years ago I was lucky enough to get involved in the whole “flipping houses” industry when the economy was going gangbusters. As things started to slow down however, I found that if you took run down properties and fixed them up, you could still do alright as a real estate investor. But what that meant was having tools.. and not just any tools, quality tools. I’ll relate a situation. We have a store out by where I live that is known to have cheap tools. Everything from compressors, to miter saws, drills, and everything in-between. Sometimes you don’t mind buying these products because if you get a few uses out of them and they break down, well, they’ve paid for themselves. But on one of our first few rehab projects we were using one of those cheap no name oscillating tools and it simply lacked the power to get the job done. In fact, we started to smell the motor burning. That is why it makes sense that if you want quality, safety, and power, you go with a good tool. That is why we went with the Rockwell Rk5101K as our choice of oscillating tool. The Rockwell RK5101K is one of those required tools that has so many uses that it will help you to get the job done safely and with the required speed to move on to the next project.

This tool will give you up to 20,000 back and forth oscillations per minute. What this means for the user is that you will get a smooth action and you will be able to get the job done quickly. With its included attachments, the Rockwell RK5101K opens up a range of possibilities in work that you can do on the jobsite or around the house. You will be able to cut wood, plastic, thin metals, fiberglass, and even masonry. The house next to where I live is currently being rehabbed and I was surprised to fing the guys using the Rockwell RK5101K to cut vinyl siding.

Rockwell RK5101K Technical Details
* Safe cutting – unique high frequency osilation only cuts hard materials, so the users hands and fingers are much safer than a saw that rotates.
* Smooth running – there are no fast spinning parts or alternating blades creating movement of the tool, only a high requency oscillating action resulting in no kickbacks.
* Sonicrafter throws a very low level of dust whether you’re sanding, cutting or scraping.
* Up to the edge and corners – with Sonicrafter you can get into difficult to reach areas that is not possible with a corded saw or jigsaw or even most sanders.
* High sanding capacity – with virtually no force or downward pressure required.

My last use of the Rockwell RK5101K:
The bottom line is that the Rockwell RK5101K has so many uses that you will continually find yourself reaching for it for your next job or finding reasons to use it around the house. For instance, I have an old house where the previous owners decided to paint, paint, and repaint the window trim (yellow, purple, and finally a few coats of white) to the point where it looked like one big glob of paint had been thrown around the windows. The windows were brand new but the trim just looked nasty. Rather than take the time to replace the trim, I grabbed the Rockwell RK5101K and was able to quickly sand/scrape the trim just about down to bare wood. Then a quick coat of paint and the trim looked brand new!
Can I share any negatives about the Rockwell RK5101K oscillating tool? Sure. I truly wish that this tool was cordless. I’ve run into a couple of situations where I did not have an extension cord and the 10 foot cord with this tool was a little too short for me. However, I will say right away that I have never used a cordless oscillating tool that came close to approaching the power of the Rockwell RK5101K, plus the size of this tool makes it easy to get into tight spaces (ie kitchen cabinets) and combined with the power, makes it easy to get the job done quickly.
